We revised the footwork, the guards and cuts we learnt last week, the figure-8 and pretzel drills, and steps 1-4 of the form.
We learnt one new guard, Guardia di Testa.
We learnt one new cut, the Stramazone.
We learnt steps 5-7 of the form.
We practiced cutting against a target, and practiced measure and tempo in the voiding drill.
Revision
Please keep practicing footwork and cuts with the walking figure-8 drill:
- Stand in Coda Lunga Larga
- Cut a Mandritto Squelembro into Porta di Ferro Larga
- Stop and look at your feet – check you are in a good stance, with your feet shoulder width apart (not in a thin / linear stance)
- Cut a Riverso Squelembro back into Coda Lunga Larga
- Check your stance again
Practice steps 1-7 of the form (a wooden spoon and saucepan lid are great substitutes for a sword and buckler!)
Revise the guards and cuts, and their Italian names.
Next Steps
Next week we will complete learning the form, learning one new cut and one new guard.
We will also practice thrusting to a target.
